Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Stones Throw is a premium red blend of Merlot (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (14%), Malbec (11%), and Petit Verdot (5%). All varietals are grown in our vineyard within a Stones Throw of each other. Each grape brings its own distinctive character to the blend creating a rich full-bodied wine of distinctive complexity. This wine was matured in 14 months of French oak and should age well 7-10 years.
Vineyard Notes
The winter of 2018 was reasonably normal with no damage to vines. Bud break was on April 27th. May was nice and warm getting the vines off to a good start. June and July cooler and unsettled weather. August weather returned to seasonal norms. September was wetter than usual but October was good grape growing weather. The grapes were harvested in mid to late October. The grapes for this single vineyard blend were all grown in our River Rock Vineyard, which surrounds our winery in Oliver BC. Each grape varietal contained in the blend was planted in 2003 and was situated where it had growing conditions best suited to the varietal. The vineyard is on south facing slopes where soil is composed of rock, sand, and gravel that is rich in calcium, laid down during the last glacial recession.
Winemaker Notes
Each varietal contained in the blend was hand-picked, with the grapes hand sorted prior to destemming. Approximately 80% of the fruit was left whole, uncrushed. The grapes were cold soaked between 3-5 days and then fermented in both stainless steel tanks (2200 and 2850 and 5000 litre) and small fermentation totes to maximize skin to juice contact. The Cabernet Sauvignon and some of the Merlot were cofermented ( approx. 50/50 blend) The wine was transferred, following pressing, to tanks to settle then transferred to barrels where malolactic fermentation was completed. Wine was aged in French oak barrels (33% new) for approximately 14 months. Following aging, blending trials were done, final filtering, and bottling resulting in the 2019 Stones Throw blend.

Attended a culinary evening at The Okanagan Table in August and as a pairing with the incredible food was this incredible wine. Delightful on the palate. Unfortunately it is not available in Alberta yet but will be seeking out this vineyard on my next trip to the Okanagan.
